Big Ginge, a cat with a love for life on the water, grew up on a houseboat with his family in Birmingham, UK. Alongside his brother Diesel and mom Weasel, Big Ginge was no stranger to adventure, often exploring the shores whenever the family set sail.
His owners, Colin Clayton and Eva Bellamy, were used to their feline companions venturing off but always returning home. However, after one trip to Fradley Junction, Big Ginge did not come back, marking the start of a decade-long absence.

Despite Colin and Eva’s efforts to find him, including an extra five-day wait, calling out his name, and putting up posters, Big Ginge remained missing. Registered as missing on his microchip, his whereabouts over the next ten years remained a mystery, filled with adventures only Big Ginge could recount.

In a twist of fate, the wandering Big Ginge, known as Marmalade to the locals, caught the attention of the Cats Protection Lichfield & Tamworth Branch. After weeks of attempts, the elusive cat finally wandered into a kind man’s flat, who noticed a lump on his side and contacted the welfare team. A vet appointment revealed his true identity through his microchip, leading to an emotional reunion with Colin and Eva.

Back home on the houseboat, Big Ginge has settled in as if he never left, enjoying his days eating, sleeping, and showing affection. Now with dog siblings Mutley and Misty Moo, he seems content to stay indoors, showing no desire to resume his adventures. His return highlights the importance of microchipping and keeping contact details up to date, a small but crucial detail that enabled this heartwarming reunion.
